Ken Gailer
Since the first exhibition of his work in 1980 at the Young Masters Gallery, Brisbane, Ken’s intensely rewarding art career has seen him explore various styles and techniques with his recent work a revisit to a favourite; “Fractured Romantic Landscapes”.
This body of work features Australia’s coast and hinterland, segmented with numerous panels and featuring Ken’s trademark patterning.
Balancing precision in form and composition with a sense of nature’s wild beauty, these “windows to the world” capture the feel of physical immersion in a landscape. Are infused with an invisible human perspective, and an intelligent eye that organises the views while taking in their infinitely rich colours and textures.
As he works, each canvas takes on a life of its own, with inspirations branching off one another organically. “You set something in motion, and over time it begins to tell you what it needs.”
The paintings are not snapshots, but rather collages of moments, often combining different qualities of light and times of day.
Ken has exhibited in more than 40 solo and group exhibitions and his work forms part of corporate and private collections in Australia, England, America and throughout Asia.
