The Convent Experience | Our Gardens
A visit to the Convent Gallery is not complete without a meander through the all-seasons gardens surrounding the building. Eye-catching sculptures and awe-inspiring views contrast with the fragrant and colourful gardens that have blossomed in the rich volcanic soil.
6-acres of Gardens
The Convent is surrounded by six acres of picturesque and fragrant gardens, open everyday for all to enjoy. Whether it is Spring, Autumn or Winter, the gardens are always a delight.
Tulip Tree
As you approach the front entrance you come across the guard of the convent. A wooden sculpture by Kevin Gilders. He has amazing character, and you can almost see the wisdom in his eyes and face. And behind him, a beautiful tulip tree, planted just before the Convent Gallery opened in 1991. Customers sitting in the cafe enjoy it change with the seasons.
Nun’s Garden
Following the path to the right you can admire the century old laurel hedge, holly, magnolia and fir trees, all planted by the Nuns. You will love the agapanthus, roses and valerian in Spring and the red & yellow hues in Autumn. You may even spot our gardener who is always happy to provide gardening tips!
the views
Following the path to the left will lead you to the top of Wombat Hill. The views across the Central Highlands are stunning and well worth the climb. Along the way you will pass the birch forest, rose hedges and lavender bushes.
As you follow the paths, be sure to appreciate the architecture of this 19th century building that has been renovated many times over the past 160 years.

The colourful gardens, along with the spectacular Convent as a backdrop, are a photographers delight… so many locations for bridal photos.
